Fit working smoke alarms, and test weekly
A fire can ignite anywhere in the home, so early interventions are vital. Fit working and indate smoke alarms in your lounge/living room, bedrooms and other communal areas. For your kitchen, you can fit a heat detector that will actuate (sound) if a large increase of heat.
Smoking
The safest option is not to smoke entirely, because of all the negative health effects, and the mose common cause of domestic fatal fires. If you can't quit or not ready to quit, then please take the following precautions to potentially prevent a fire:
Try not to smoke indoors if possible, and make sure the cigarette is put out properly.
Keep lighters and matches out of children's reach and sight.
Do not smoke in flammable areas.
